• When she was in college, she worked as a marketing executive for a multimedia company & her first paycheck was of Rs. 5000.
• She couldn’t complete her graduation because of beauty pageants and modeling assignments.
• In 2000, she was crowned Miss Asia-Pacific title and was the second runner-up in the Miss India beauty contest. Whereas, her Bollywood contemporaries Priyanka Chopra won Miss World and Lara Dutta became Miss Universe.

Controversies

• In Feb 2015, she engaged in a war of words with BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi on the issue of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's remark that Mother Teresa’s conversion to Christianity was the major reason behind her service to the poor.
• In Mar 2016, her tweet- "The irony of the times we live in: farmers commit suicide due to drought and people waste water to 'play' Holi. Go ahead call me anti-Hindu" sparked a flood of negative responses from the Twitterati.
• In 2006, she spoke against the Sardar Sarovar Project for which she was criticized by the BJP activists. As she supported the Narmada Bachao Andolan, there was a protest march against her. Dia Mirza told PTI at a function, "People should also think about thousands who are getting displaced. Should Gujarat drink water at the cost of thousands of displaced people?" So for this, the BJP accused her that she is not aware of the project’s importance and that it would solve Gujarat’s drinking water issue.
