7 Simple Natural Home Remedies to Lighten Your Skin Scars

Everybody wants flawless skin to look beautiful. But skin problems like pimples, acne, and black/whiteheads diminish our beauty. And due to a busy life schedule, we don’t pay enough attention and give less time to our beauty. That’s why we face several skin problems, and scars are worst of all.

1. Honey

Honey is the best home remedy for sensitive skin and is used for various other medicinal purposes. Raw, organic, and pure honey is a non-irritating natural product that also moisturizes your skin. It prevents the skin from producing excess sebum.

A good antiseptic, it is a great natural solution for controlling pimples and reducing their scars. It stimulates the effective tissue generation and eases and speeds up the healing of scars. It helps in clearing and cleaning of the wound. 

Honey has antibacterial properties, which helps reduce inflammation and soothes the skin. You can directly apply it on your pimples. You can also use it along with lemon to fight bacteria and get rid of excess oil. 

2. Coconut Oil  

Research suggests that coconut oil keeps the skin moist and prevents it from producing too much serum. It thus reduces the risk of acne scars. The people having extremely oily skin should not apply coconut oil directly. It may block the pores and aggravate the situation. 

For its application, take few tablespoons of coconut oil and massage it into the scar for nearly 10 minutes. Do keep it for 1 hour and allow the skin to absorb oil. Repeat this 2-4 times every day.  

3. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a common home remedy and a natural calming substance that is used to heal many diseases. Use aloe vera gel available in the market or get a fresh leaf, cut it in half, and remove the dark green skin from one half of one side to remove the gel. Apply it on your scars and massage gently or mix two drops of tea tree oil in aloe vera before applying. Wash it after half an hour with fresh, cold water. 

Apply it twice daily to promote cell regeneration. It also helps to moisturize and rejuvenate the skin from burns to wound to acne scars. A study suggests that directly applying aloe vera reduced inflammation and scar tissue size. It regulates melanin production and reduces pigmentation and discoloration. 

4. Essential Oils 

Essentials oils are great for the skin. They have wound-healing qualities and prevent the development of scar tissues. They also help in reducing redness and inflammation and smoothen the skin texture. 

You can use various essential oils like rosehip, frankincense, lavender, and olive oil. You can mix two or more essential oils on the scarred areas of skin for nearly 5 minutes. Leave the oil as it is for half an hour. 

Rinse it using warm water. Repeat this process thrice a day.  

5. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar helps improve the appearance of red marks and scars. It helps manage the pH level of your skin. Mix apple cider vinegar and distilled water in 1:2 ratio, dip a cotton ball into the mix, gently on the scar, and apply it every day on the affected area.

Its acidic properties help in the removal of the top layer of the skin and reduce the appearance of scars.  

6. Baking Soda

Baking soda has anti-inflammatory properties and can help in fighting scars and acne. It soaks essential oil that may cause the skin to produce extra sebum. 

Create a mixture of baking soda and water and apply this paste on the affected area of skin after wetting it. Do keep it for 15 minutes and rinse the area with cold water. Repeat this process thrice a day every day for the best results.  

7. Lemon

Lemon has citric acid and is rich in Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), which acts as a natural bleach agent. This effectively helps in lightening acne scars. Apply a wedge of lemon directly or use drops of lemon, mix it with honey, put it on the affected area of skin, and then rinse it off with cold water. 

As lemon doesn’t suit everybody’s skin because of its acidic properties, do a patch test before applying it on the face. It reduces discoloration and evens out skin tone.
