Some Facts About Ashok Gehlot Ashok Gehlot was highly influenced by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi from a very young age. During the East Bengali refugee crisis in 1971, he gave his services in the refugee camps in the eastern Indian states. During one of her visits to the refugee camps, former PM Indira Gandhi recognized his organizational skills. Gehlot was a student leader who was appointed as the first State President of NSUI (National Students Union of India), the Congress student wing in the Rajasthan unit. As a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), he represents Sardarpura constituency of Jodhpur since 1999. He was a Union Minister under former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and P.V. Narasimha Rao. He has been elected five times as a Lok Sabha member. In December 2018, he was elected as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan for the third time. He is the former National General Secretary of INC. During Karnataka Assembly polls during May 2019, he alongside Ghulam Nabi Azad was crucial in creating a post-poll alliance with the Janata Dal (Secular) to form the govt.
