Some Facts About Gautam Gambhir At the age of 17, Gautam debuted in ODIs in 2003 and the international tests the following year. Throughout his international cricketing career, Gautam made 63 half-centuries and 20 centuries across all formats (Test, ODI, T20). He became the 1st Indian batsman to record five 100s in five consecutive tests, 11 consecutive 50s in 11 test matches, and over 300 runs in four consecutive tests series. At ICC World Twenty20 in 2007, he became India’s top scorer (& 2nd-highest scorer after Matthew Hayden- 265 runs) with 227 runs. In the Indian Premier League, he was a part of Delhi Daredevils from 2008 to 2010 and 2018 and Kolkata Knight Riders from 2011-17. From late 2010 to late 2011, he became the captain of the national team in the six ODIs, winning all the matches. In 2011, he became the most expensive IPL player with a bid of $2.4 million. As a skipper of the IPL team KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders), the team won the title twice in 2012 and 2014. In the 2011 World Cup Final, he had a memorable inning and scored 97 runs off 122 balls. In 2009, he was ranked #1 batsman in the ICC Test rankings. He retired from all formats in December 2018. In 2014, he started Gautam Gambhir Foundation as the philanthropic initiative. In 2019, he won from East Delhi constituency and is currently serving as a Member of Parliament (MP). Awards & Recognitions In 2008, the President of India bestowed Gautam with the Arjuna Award. In 2019, he was honored with Padma Shri- the nation’s 4th highest civilian award from the Government of India.
