Bharatiya Janata Party

In 1983 he became the leader of RSS student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

In 1987 he became an activist of BJP's youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

In 1991 he campaigned for Lal Krishna Advani in Gandhinagar during Lok Sabha elections.

In 1995 when BJP formed its first government in Gujarat

Congress was very powerful in Gujarat.

Shah and Narendra Modi worked together to remove Congress from several cities.

In 2009 he was assigned the position of vice-president of the cash-rich Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA).

He contested in 2002 Assembly elections from the Sarkhej constituency in Ahmedabad and won by 158036 votes.

In 2014 he became the president of BJP

and his strategy was credited for Narendra Modi's huge victory in General Elections.

He was a Rajya Sabha MP from 2017-2019 but resigned in mid-2019 to contest for Gandhinagar seat in Gujarat in the Lok Sabha.

Some Interesting Facts About Amit Shah

  • Born in a Nagar-Vaishnav family, Amit Shah hails from Mumbai, but his family relocated to Gujarat’s Mansa.  
  • In the 1970s, he worked as a booth level and a party worker of the Janata Dal.
  • Amit Shah was also jailed in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh case in 2010. After bail, he was asked not to enter Gujarat. 
  • Till date, he has not lost a single poll (including local body polls). 
  • He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 1982, since then the two are working together and winning the elections. 
  • Apart from being a politician, Amit Shah is also an investor in share market. He has invested 2-crores in the shares of Reliance Industries, 1-crore in TCS, and 1.4 crores in L&T finance.
  • He became MLA from Sarkhej elections in 1997, 1998, 2002, and 2007.
  • He has also worked as a stockbroker and in co-operative banks in Ahmedabad.
  • He was the president of Gujarat Chess Association.
  • His son has done engineering from the Nirmal University and is the Secretary of the Gujarat Chess Association.
  • In 2019, Lok Sabha Elections, Amit Shah broke L. K Advani’s victory margin record after defeating CJ Chavda by a margin of 5,57,014 votes. Advani won this seat by a margin of 4,83,121 votes.
  • He was the President of ADCB (Ahmedabad district Cooperative bank) in 2000.
  • He was accused of destroying the evidence and influencing witnesses in 2002 Gujarat riots and spying on a woman who has a connection with the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.
