Nostradamus: The Man Behind the World Predictions That Turned True

When you have no idea what’s going to happen the next moment, there was a man who predicted the future of the world. And it’s not good news that all his predictions happen to be true.

The writer, prophet & French physician Michel de Nostredame is best known for his book ‘Les Propheties’ - a collection of poems, quatrains grouped in ten sets of verses (referred as centuries)of 100 quatrains each. The first edition of the book was published in 1555 by the publishing house Macé Bonhomme. It included 53 quatrains and three whole centuries. The second edition of the book was published the same year but with minor differences. The third edition of the same was published after two years and included the text of the previous edition with three more centuries.

Nostradamus studied at the University of Avignon. Unfortunately, after a year of his admission, the university closed due to the plague. He got married in 1531, but his wife and children died during another plague outbreak. After leaving Avignon, he traveled the countryside to research for the herbal remedies.

Nostradamus then wrote an Almanac (an annual publication that lists a set of events to occur in the next year). The publication includes tide tables, weather forecasts and more. It also adds information and statistics found in Almanacs such as date of eclipses, religious festivals and hours of low and high tides.

His Almanac was a great success. As a result, he continued writing them for years. He then started working as an astrologer for several rich persons. Queen of France Catherine de Medici (1547-1559) became his supporter.

Nostradamus Prophecies book gained many supporters. Many popular presses (newspaper and media) gave him credit for his accurate predictions based on world events. However, many academic sources rejected his beliefs that Nostradamus had supernatural abilities and the link between his quatrains and world events are the result of mistranslations.

Apart from being an astrologer, he was also a professional healer. He wrote two books on medical science. One was the translation of The Protreptic of Galen. Another book Traité des fardemens included a description of the methods he used to cure the plague. It also described the preparation of cosmetics.

The Content of the Quatrains

Most of his quatrains speak about earthquakes, invasions, droughts, battle, wars, and murders. The major theme is the invasion of Europe by Muslim forces from east and south headed by Antichrist (antagonist of the Messiah), reflecting the current Ottoman invasions (series of military conflicts between the European states and Ottoman Empire) and earlier Saracen equivalents.

The rhymed quatrains were written in French with some quatrains in Greek and Latin too. He used symbols, added or removed letters to hide the originality of the quatrain.

Michel de Nostredame, a physician cum astrologer, is known for his future predictions. Over the long history of the world, before his death, several things he said came true. Therefore, Nostradamus prophecies became famous among people. According to his predictions, 2018 would be a horrifying year with many calamities happening around the world. Below is the list of happenings he predicted for 2018.

1. The Beginning of World War III

Nostradamus Predictions for 2018 says the war will happen in France and will sweep the whole world quickly. His future predictions say that this war will take many human lives and there will be peace only in 2025. He also said that the cause for this conflict would be the invasion of the Muslims and Arabs and the terrorist attacks on France.

2. The Eruption of Volcano Mount Vesuvius

Nostradamus future predictions added the eruption of the active volcano Mount Vesuvius in 2018. He said that the earth would shake for five minutes and this natural disaster will kill more than 15000 people. Vesuvius has erupted about three times since 79 A.D. recently from 1913-1944. It is currently active and is expected to erupt again.

3. Floods in China

The astrologer and prophet Nostradamus predictions for 2018 said about the natural disaster in China in 2018. He said that three volcanoes would erupt; there will be floods in several parts of the world that will break all the records. China will see many deaths due to this calamity. Russia will see a lot of diseases due to poor weather conditions. Typhoons will occur in China, Australia, and Japan.

4. Global Warming

Although the concept of global warming was not known back in the time, he forecasted the effects of global warming and said, “The king will rob the forests” which means uncontrollable deforestation.

5. Manmade and Natural Disasters

The future predictions of Nostradamus said the nation would face a lot of changes. Both manmade and natural disasters will happen and will create havoc in people’s lives.

6. War Between Two Powers Lasting for 25+ years

Another prediction by Nostradamus mentioned about the war between the two powers lasting for 27 years. He said that a comet would appear in the sky and a planet will come towards the earth when it would be damaged by natural disasters and terrorism. (12.1)

He further said, 

“The whole of life on the earth will seem to be lost and there will only be the cries of murders, cursing, deadly noises and weapons”.

7. Economy Will Collapse

He saw the destruction of the global economy in 2018. He said,

“The rich will die many times.” 

Economist Martin Armstrong also predicted the same. He described his predictions as, 

“Financial collapse due to the growing resentment among the underprivileged against the rich.”

What Happened-

The French Revolution saw the downfall of the monarchy and the formation of the New Republic. The 3rd estate took control of Paris and imposed their demands on royalty. The French Revolution turned disastrous. Both nobles and commoners were declared traitors to the matter, and their head was cut off (headless idiots) at the guillotine.

2. Louis Pasteur

Nostradamus Prediction-

The lost thing is discovered, hidden for many centuries.

Pastor will be celebrated almost as a God-like figure.

This is when the moon completes her great cycle,

But by other rumors he shall be dishonored.

What Happened-

Most of his predictions for Louis Pasteur were based on the fact that ‘Pasteur’ is the French word for shepherd. He is credited for discovering microbial decay ( a lost thing is discovered, hidden for many centuries). He is also credited for saving several lives in the history.

3. Bomb Blast on Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Nostradamus Prediction-

Near the gates and within two cities

There will be scourges the like of which was never seen,

Famine within plague, people put out by steel,

Crying to the great immortal God for relief.

What Happened-

It was in August 1945 when the US dropped two dangerous atomic weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Both the cities were destroyed, and the survivors of the atomic blast suffered from radiation poisoning. Japan also suffered a food shortage crisis. It all happened during World War II (WWII).

4. Murder of John F. Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy

Nostradamus Prediction-

The great man will be struck down in the day by a thunderbolt,

An evil deed foretold by the bearer of a petition.

According to the prediction, another falls at night time.

Conflict at Reims, London and a pestilence in Tuscany.

What Happened-

President John Kennedy received death threats during his presidency. It was during his visit to Dallas on 23rd November 1963 when John F. Kennedy was shot down. This murder shocked and shattered the nation. Later, Bobby Kennedy (his brother) was murdered after midnight on 5th June 1968.

5. Terrorist Attack on 11 September 2001

Nostradamus Prediction – 

Earthshaking fire from the center of the Earth

Will cause tremors around the New City.

Two great rocks will war for a long time,

Then Arethusa will redden a new river.

What Happened–

It was on 11 September 2001 when the towers of the WTC (World Trade Center) in New York City collapsed after al-Qaeda terrorists crashed passenger planes into the buildings. His prediction  “fire from the center of the Earth” doesn’t relate with 9/11 attack. (12.2)

1. Quatrain 75 – India to Produce Immortal Ruler

According to quatrain 75, Century says, 

“Long awaited, he will not take birth in Europe, India will produce the immortal ruler, Seeing wisdom and power of unlimited scope, Asia will bow before this conquering scholar."

2. Future Leader Will be a Hindu Based Out of South India

The peninsula which surrounds three seas can only be the Indian peninsula, and Hindus consider Thursday as holy. Thus, the future leader will be a Hindu from South India.

3. Hindus Will Give Europe a Colossal Kick

Passage 40 says, 

“Rome of seven hills hit by calamities quick, Storm, deluge, epidemic and consuming fire, The Hindus give Europe a colossal kick, And conquer it with revengeful ire."

Nostradamus in Modern World

Nostradamus prophecies spread largely in 20 and 21 centuries. His life has been described in several videos and films. The film Nostradamus is based on the love and life of the astrologer and physician. The film also shares his struggles and his visions for the future.

There also have been fake passages in the style of Nostradamus circulated on the Internet. After 2012, Nostradamus prophecies were adapted as evidence suggesting that the end of the world is about to happen. Recently in 2017, Nostradamus was the story (subject) of the episode of a comedy series Over My Dead Body on Amazon Prime.

Concluding Thoughts 

Although the great prophet Nostradamus died in 1566, people still consider him as one of the wisest men to exist on the earth. His writings, quatrains are still read to know about future events.
